News of two more debutants, but first.

With the media fixated on the diabolical changes to the England football shirt I would like to add my pennyworth.

Think yourselves lucky, at least they don’t look like swirly custard! 

Firstly we should offer our Congratulations to Colchester on their deserved league title this year. From he first game of the season it was obvious that they had recruited well and were going to be the side to beat. And so it proved, We wish them the best in the heights of Nat 2 next year.

At the other end we say farewell to Westcliff and Rochford, 2 sides who have seen some glory in the past few years but are now entering that re-building phase that we know all too well.

They say its an ill wind that blow nobody any good and their relegation opens the door for their close neighbours Southend who last week clinched the title of Regional 2 Anglia. This means we may see the return, as a guest, of our old fly half Ben Lloyd who has co captained them through this campaign.

Southend pipped Harlow and Eton Manor to the title, 2 sides heavily laden with former Hertford talent. If social media is to be believed, our old favourite Dave Archer is still putting in great performances, and he must be at least 63!

So, with 2 games to go, we are secure in this league and not challenging the top boys yet, so that gives us the opportunity to blood even more new home grown talent.

Two youngsters, fresh out of Colts, will debut tomorrow.

Seb Bleriot, a talented fly half who has been playing well in the 2’s this season will start in the 10 shirt.

In the 2nd row Riley Hagger (Pictured), who sounds like a villain from an episode of ‘Dog, The Bounty Hunter’ ( and plays like it as well!) partners Sonny as Joe Tracy moves to 8 and Tremaine Fry returns to the flank in the absence of the two Alex’s, Kay and Banna.

David Hale also returns to the fray, starting from the bench.

I know we keep reminding you all, but this week is another record as 13 of the 18 squad are ex youth players, a remarkable feat and when you add the fact that the current Colts won the Herts Middlesex Colts league. Division 1 unbeaten last week, it looks like there could be more to come.

Harpenden is never an easy place to play. They have have a fairly YoYo season with some great results and some very poor ones so a tricky one to predict. Whilst you can never say results don’t matter, what’s really important in these last two games is team and individual performances , consistency and playing for 80 minutes.

It may not be this year, it may not be next year, there is still a fair way to go, but this side is growing and developing and good things are coming.

Good luck Seb and Riley.

Keep the faith.

See you there, mine’s a Guinness
