Albert celebrates reaching Murryfield
On the 8th January despite Covid and the fact we couldn't be together training at the club, we could however, still challenge ourselves as a group remotely. So on this day which will forever go down in club history.... The Six Nations Stadium Challenge started!
The goal was simple; to follow the England teams’ path around the Six Nations stadiums by FOOT, or some 4,336 miles before the end of the tournament, ideally eating and drinking a local delicacy of that region on arrival, Haggis and Iron Bru in Scotland, Peroni and Pasta in Italy etc.
The route was also simple enough, Twickenham-Murrayfield-Stadio Olimpico-Principality Stadium-Stade de France-Aviva Stadium-Twickenham and back to HOE LANE.
Having started with an enthusiastic 20 joiners it was soon apparent that we had possibly bitten off more than we could chew, short of having 20 Mo Farah's in the team which sadly we didn't!
But that wasn't going to stop the plucky parents and players of Hertford RFC.
Once more members were made aware of the challenge, thankfully... more joined and we were soon at 53 members all busting a gut on their local streets to make the goal a reality. Averaging 54 miles a day and 'virtually' crossing some beautiful towns across Europe and the UK through rain, wind, snow, and any other delights our British weather throws at us, the team doggedly kept on going day after day until finally reaching Hoe Lane today on Tuesday 16th March some five days before target!!
It's been a brilliant journey despite numerous pulled muscles, sore feet and questionable local delicacies, but really has shown true team effort and what a great rugby family and club we are all part of.
A massive well done for everyone who joined in.
